Saturday
I can’t believe that we totally scored fantastic weather 2 years in a row! The sun is out, the tide is high, and friendly faces began arriving really early to lend a hand. Strangely enough, more Dunkin’ Donuts mysteriously appeared.
The perfect day brought out a record first day, 120 DUI Test Divers. Among them were several famous faces from our DOG Rally DVD. With that many divers, things do get a little crazy, but the Rally Crew handled it all in stride. Some how we managed to cook up 180 hamburgers and 91 hot dogs! I guess we’ll be doing some grocery shopping tonight after the catered dinner. The time just flew by and we were flipping suits and loading the truck by 5PM.
The Causeway Restaurant came through with a fantastic dinner for us. Their huge portions meant we had enough food to feed about 100 people! Completely stuffed with New England seafood (and a vegetarian option as well) there was quite a bit of clowning around during the dinner presentation, and prize giveaways of DUI schwag and Diversitea Sport Bottles. Bernie managed to keep everyone in line and things didn’t get too out of hand; that means you Pete!
Sunday
6AM arrived very early at the Cape Ann Marina Motel. Breakfast however, was not quite so timely, which is odd since we were the only people there. It seems that the dark clouds overhead brought out only the hardiest of fishermen for the Yankee Fleet boat, and we had the Gull Restaurant to ourselves. Most of breakfast was consumed in the car on the way to the dive site.
The clouds broke by 11AM and the sun rejuvenated everyone, of course the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee may have had something to do with that as well. BTW, thanks for the Hot Chocolate Mia! It certainly helped beat the early morning chills. Bernie and Dave handled much of the Beachmaster duties, as we checked in another 60 DUI Test Divers.
As the day wound down, we packed away all of the undergarments for their trip to the local cleaners. Checking in 200 undergarments for washing usually leaves them a bit dumbfounded and then we drive away really fast before they have a chance to change their minds.
The tents came down quickly and we actually had everything packed up early enough to kick back and hang out for a while with the Stage Fort DOG Crew!
Thanks to everyone that helped out and to all who attended. It really was a great event. Gotta love the Cape!
Things I learned this Demo Day:
1) They are hot dog “rolls” in New England…not buns, and they’re split across the top.
2) Dunkin Donuts coffee is still magma hot, even after 45 minutes (according to Faith).
3) There is a baseball team called the Yankees, and they’re not terribly popular here.
