Dave's DOG Blog
Sunday
Up at 5:30AM to greet the day and the famous Seattle liquid sunshine. I detoured to this “Starbucks” place to pick up several boxes of c_o_f_f_e_e. Apparently people around here drink a lot of this “coffee” stuff, and were quite vocal about the faux pas of not having gallons of it immediately available on Saturday. Not going to make that mistake today! Thankfully I was able to speak enough Italian to order appropriately.
We began the unloading at 7AM once again, just to make sure we had a jump start on the day. When 8AM rolled around and it was time for the morning Crew briefing, there was a subtly apparent problem. There was no Crew, except for Jennifer (UW Sports). As the test divers began to arrive at 9AM the skeleton crew kicked into gear. As it approached 11AM, I was let in on a little known secret of PNW diving…things don’t get started quite so early on the second dive day.
I think one of the main reasons stems from this whole “coffee” thing. I mean come on, this Starbuck’s place only had that one machine. You’re practically guaranteed to get stuck in line each time you visit. I’ll go out on a limb and suggest that maybe Mr. Buck should get a second machine, or perhaps even consider opening some additional locations. This coffee thing might go over well in other parts of the country. Just my 2 cents as a non-coffee drinker.
Dry Gloves were the order of the day, and I believe that at times (considering the repeated deluges as rain storms hit the coast), the driest place at Owen Beach was underwater in a DUI.
Altogether it was an amazing weekend along the shore of the Puget Sound. The crew was so efficient that we were completely packed up and ready to roll 30 minutes ahead of schedule. A few pictures and some good-natured banter with the remaining crew wrapped up the weekend.
