Sunday
The weather cooled down a delightful 10 degrees, making the day just that much more difficult to resist getting in a dive. The tent crew kept a constant flow of divers headed to the beach for test dives. Several groups made multiple dives, while still more completed Drysuit specialty courses. There were even a few grumbling comments from divers who’d been testing drysuits all day Saturday and were now bemoaning the fact that they should have arranged their drysuit class before their advanced certification dives on Sunday.
The day passed very quickly with eager test divers trying different types of drysuits and undergarments right up until the 3PM “Last Diver in the water” deadline. Once we were completely packed up, thanks to a fantastically dedicated crew of DOGs, there was some very interesting happenings…namely Christine’s (DAN) official welcome to Haigh Quarry. Faith managed to get a few pictures, and even some video of the event. There was however some degree of subterfuge afoot, as Christine was lofted off the ledge, ever so delicately into the water. Faith’s video managed to capture the crime in progress. It seems that I was struck while my back was turned (ambush style) and mercilessly flung into the water. After having reviewed the footage endlessly while back at DUI’s newly formed “Crime Lab” it appears that a “lone gunman” struck while my defenses were down, as we stood at the base of the grassy knoll, over-looking the water. The video replay clearly shows a person of interest, outfitted in official DOG wear. I only hope that Kathy (our webmaster) can get this video on-line so that the dastardly culprit can be found. Notice in the video that while distracted the victim (me) was struck from behind, falling back, and to the left…back and to the left. A reward has been offered for any further evidence that leads to the capture of this individual. The hunt continues…you will be found!
