6AM California Time
Oh…so, United Airlines has this audio channel that lets you listen in on the pilot/ATC radio. That was really pretty interesting to hear, and helped pass the time as I figured out how to get the most work done, before the batteries in my laptop died. Sitting here in the middle seat of the coach cabin really pretty much sucks. I can’t actually open my laptop to work, and my knees are buried into the seat pocket in front of me. You’ll have to forgive the occasional typo from time to time, because I can’t actually type properly with a half open laptop. Although it does appear that they guy sitting next to me is actually reading my screen as I type this…Yes…hello dude…mind if I use the arm rest? Thanks.
The plan was pretty simple; fly to Allentown, pick up DOG Truck at Dutch Springs, and drive 8 hours to Gilboa Quarry in Findlay, OH. For the first time in my experience, I arrived at an airport with no taxis…none…anywhere. I managed to find a phone book, and set about trying to convince a cab company to send a car out to get me. By the time I’d managed this, passengers from 2 other flights were coming to me for advice on how to get a cab. So, I talked to my new buddy at the cab company and arranged for 3 more taxis. What the heck…I had nothing else to do.
A few minutes of chatting with Kevin at Dutch about their busy holiday weekend, then the normal vehicle inspection, and I was on the open road, bound for Ohio! Until I got to the highway that is, where 5PM Rush Hour traffic had things moving just slightly faster than the average garden snail. So two and a half hours (and 100 miles) later, I hung it up for the night.
