So the website for the hotel advertised free wifi, and a major remodeling. The wifi only reached halfway down the hall, and apparently remodeled means they have the new curved shower rod. Those seasoned Dutch Springs denizens will remember the original hotel name, that being the “MacIntosh Inn”. With all of our time on the road, we really need a good internet connection to handle the daily tide of DUI emails, so this morning found me sitting outside the lobby in our rental vehicle (within wifi range of course), hammering away on the keyboard. A short, bleary-eye stumble through the parking lot to the Bethlehem Diner, turned up Faith and Susan (DUI President) halfway into the second pot of caffeine fueled cheer.
The forecast called for the occasional shower and clouds for most of the day. The Public Safety Event followed our usual format and allowed for some really great interaction. We addressed a host of questions, and got to spend some extra time on the small details that often get overlooked. The water was exceptionally clear and enticing. We practically had to force Oren to suit up and go for a dive with one of the teams attending the workshop. Okay, not really. I thought Oren was quick on the phones at the office, but watching him hurdle the table on the way to the drysuit racks was pretty impressive. Erik from Subsalve had all of us joining forces to cobble together the salient points of Archimedes Principle, and doing some mental math while figuring buoyancy characteristics. Christine from DAN (Diver’s Alert Network) filled in the details about DAN’s mission and efforts to enhance diver safety around the globe. We heard all about the new course for Professional Divers, and a smiling nod from Faith pretty much confirmed our mutual intention to find a way to get into one of those classes.
