Ah…the joys of modern air travel! Up at 4AM (PST) this morning to wait in a security line at the airport, where it seems that no one got the memo re: TSA restrictions on liquids and gels, shoe x-rays, and the avoidance of wearing a Batman utility belt, festooned with metal parts and electronics. <sigh>
Not to worry though, there was plenty of time to wait in lines once the connecting flight into Newark was cancelled due to weather, and the next available flight was a mere 12 hours later. In that time, many an email was caught up and all of the repeating PA announcements were committed to memory…you know…the one where the “threat level has been upgraded to” burnt umber or something equally non-threatening.
At least the traffic into Allentown PA won’t be that bad at 4AM (EST). Here’s hoping that the battery in the laptop doesn’
Thursday, May 17th
Thank goodness for the “auto save” feature. With the batteries all recharged and few hours of sleep it’s time to head over to Dutch and set up tents, turn and wax 100 or so zippers and clean Rock Boots! Yes, it truly is a glamorous life we lead at DUI. Thankfully, Faith, Al, and Oren (the DUI Crew) had already finished much of the heavy lifting, and we had things wrapped up by 4PM and returned to the fabulous Scottish Inn. Al and I managed to convince Faith that some sushi was in order for dinner, and we were soon trying to figure out the local specialties. Following dinner there were a few supplies to pick up at the local grocery store, and a run to the gas station to make sure our generator would keep the tent lights, laptops and RFID system running. No worries about having trouble sleeping tonight.  |
