Dave's DOG Blog
Saturday
We were all quite surprised at the Test Diver turn out today! The 39 degree temperature, wind and intermittent rain didn’t keep many people from zipping up and hitting the water; which by the way was actually warmer than the air temperature. Our seasoned Rally Crew of local DUI dealers easily handled the early morning surge of Test Divers. I’m not sure if it was the multiple dives and a little bit of shivering (between dives of course), or the flocking around the grill (for warmth) that created some healthy appetites. We consumed just over 90 hot dogs and 120 hamburgers.
Bob Hathaway (Odyssey SCUBA) kept the one-liners zinging all day, and reminded us not to take things so seriously, and just enjoy the day. It seemed that everyone was looking forward to the reported 60 degree, sunny Sunday ahead.
Thanks to Todd from Bill’s Hickory for going above and beyond (as usual) in arranging our buffet style catered dinner. The Pulled Pork was a hit to be sure! Joe Wysocki and Dick Long shared the duties of entertaining everyone with some amazing stories about their recent travels, which included the first ever presentation of Dick’s adventures at the Polar Diving Workshop, in the frozen arctic latitudes of Norway. Congratulations to all of the prize winners at the dinner. Clearly we’ll have to come up with a few tougher questions for the Diversitea Trivia. As promised, we did make sure to have a moment of silent remembrance for one of our longtime DOGs who was not with us…Slim had to work. <g>
Finally, after securing the DOG Truck for the evening, drying fans at full speed, our 16 hour day came to an end.
