DOG Day – Sunday
We awoke to the remnants of the overnight rain showers, and grew a little concerned by the radar pictures of yet another approaching band of thunderstorms. Thankfully, the huge blob on the radar missed us, and brought only a mild sprinkling of rain. It’ll take a lot more rain than that to dampen the spirits of a group of divers especially those decked out in the latest DUI drysuits. A cool breeze and a little cloud cover made for perfect drysuit diving weather.
Talking with one newly converted DUI diver, I was reminded of those early days of dreading the 2nd dive of the day, especially on days such as this, with a little chill in the air, some rain and clouds. The diver was positively gleeful that they were making dive #4, and how much they didn’t miss climbing back into a cold wet suit for that 2nd dive in the 55F water. Moreover, I laughed as each member of their group didn’t have to be coaxed back into the water for dive #3, and that they hurried their instructor back into the water for dive #4.
Congratulations to all of the newly certified SCUBA divers earning not only their O/W c-card, but also their Drysuit certification at the same time!
The tents came down quickly and packing the DOG truck was a breeze with all of the help we had from the Crew. Of course things wouldn’t be a DUI event without the usual stream of good natured humor, as we rolled the last of the suit racks onto the truck. Thanks to all of those that stopped giving me crap about my camo pants…sadly, it just made room for them to make more jokes about my lack of a California tan…but hey maybe we’ll have to develop a “tan-thru” DUI for next year.
Thanks to all in attendance for a great event, and thanks to each and every member of the DOG Crew. We set quite a record this year, and we certainly couldn’t have done it without each of you! See you in back again in 2008.
