DOG Day – Saturday March 31
A 7:30 AM turn out just doesn’t seem so bad when daylight savings time is in your favor. We arrived at the dive site and were met by a line of friends waiting at the gate, eager to become part of the DOG Crew for 2007. Being our 4th year at ABWA, the majority of our area dealers and their staff were very experienced with Demo Days, and the duties to be performed ensuring test divers have the best possible drysuit experience. A huge thank you goes to Walt from Dolphin Aquatics for coordinating the diving briefing and organizing Deck Boss duties for the entire weekend. The crew in the tent made sure that divers were suited up, providing a constant stream of test divers making their way down to the water.
We truly had no idea that we’d be seeing 116 test divers on the first day alone! By comparison, the 2006 event saw approximately 130 test divers over the entire weekend. The Alabama DOG Crew earned their stripes today for sure. Great job!
The smell of the catered dinner began to draw divers and crew alike together at 6 PM. Joe Wysocki (Optiquatics) and Faith Ortins (DUI VP) delighted all with amazing photos from around the globe, and with their good natured banter. We had some fun trivia questions for prizes donated by our event co-sponsor Diversitea. There were Diversitea Sport Bottles and sample packs flying overhead, as we tested the knowledge of our dinner guests. We drew names from the tickets for an array of DUI T-shirts and sweatshirt giveaways. Of course, we’ll be announcing the name of the DUI Jacket Winner on the website and DOG Blog shortly.
